Riley's Haunted House
This is the Haunted House Riley and I made - we've been having fun making Halloween decorations. (= I especially like the ghost carrying a pumpkin and making a hasty escape out the chimney. I'm not sure if that was Riley's intention or not - but it's cute!

Leafy Trees Collage

TheSquirrel and I took a stroll in our backyard and had a scavenger hunt for nature objects like leaves, crabapples, a purple flower, a yellow flower, a clover, a walnut, etc. We pressed some leaves flat until the next day we could make these tree collages. (This was a few weeks ago when some leaves were falling but not all had changed color yet.) She sort of did what I did--hers is above and mine is below.
As I picked the orange papers for mine, she wanted pink for hers and I think pink turned out better-looking! The cutest thing is that when she was adding those tall thingys, she wanted to kindof "plant" them right into her "ground" by tucking them under the grass shape she glued down.

Now that the leaves are pretty much at peak color where we live,
here is something else I made with leaves!

Riley's Scarecrow
Riley and I decided to use some of the leftover supplies from his self-collage to make a scarecrow. Riley did almost all of the cutting, drew a face with a big scary mouth and thought to use leftover streamers from Cabot's birthday party for the hair and some of the patches on the clothes. Mommy thinks it's more cute than scary. (=

Boo Cards

Riley and I have been making Halloween cards - and he is super excited about them. I told Riley how to write the words and make paper springs. I also drew a couple of ghost outlines for him - but he makes much funner ghosts than I do so I let him do most of them.

Here's how the cards work (in Riley's own words), "First pumpkin confetti falls out all over you when you open the envelope. Then it says, 'BOO!' When you open the card a ghost just POPS out at you and it says, 'Did I Scare You?'!!"

-- Riley said not to show this post to Kenzie because it would ruin her surprise when he mails hers --

our pumpkin is junked

This is for Holli's contest. I got more excited as I found more cool things in "the junk drawer."
TheSquirrel made her own as I made mine. She says it's a pig. Anyway, she copied a lot of things I was doing--very fun.

Kenzie's doodle: Junky Punky
This is for Holli's contest. We (or, rather, I) had envisioned a dragon theme to match my gals dragon costume, however things soon got out of hand (as they typically will with a 3 year old wielding paint brushes). I quickly ditched the "planned" part of the project and just aimed to survive...

Kenzie painted. I arranged the junk. She whined while I arranged the junk. (she had other ideas).
But, I think we like the outcome:

It was fun, albeit, er, ahem...a wee bit stressful for those of us who aren't so patient. Honestly, I don't know who made the biggest mess - her or me?

Riley's Self-Collage

We missed the Friday when Riley was supposed to make a collage of himself in pre-school, so we did it at home and brought it in to hang up with the rest of them. He made a red and blue shirt just like his favorite one, put a hammer loop on his jeans to hold his hammer, added a chef's hat and a whisk, stuck on some piano stickers, Tigger and Pooh stickers and a ship like the big ones in Duluth.

He also had to fill out a sheet about himself to go with the collage. It's very cool because he picked out all of the collage materials a couple weeks before he did the worksheet and the stuff he picked matches his answers on the worksheet:

My favorite color is: Red
My favorite food is: Chicken Noodle casserole (Riley's recipe)
My favorite story is: "I'm Mighty"
My favorite toy is: That's a tough one - the toy parking ramp Cabot got for his birthday.
My favorite place to go is: DULUTH!
My favorite thing about preschool is: That's a tough one - playing in the apple pie stand
When I watch T.V. I like to watch: "Tigger and Pooh"
When I'm outside I like to play: That's a tough one - on my 2 pirate ships in the backyard
When we go out to eat, I like to go to: Applebees
I think when I get bigger I would like to be: A Chef

Here's how it works!
Grab a child in your life and let them dictate what you all will do. Work how you work so they can see what you do and how you do it. If it's on the computer, give them the mouse to color something in or if your medium of choice is paint, have them paint. Just be creative!! You can see what I do with one of my styles here. Enjoy your time and just have fun! Participation is open to all.
